ALDS now a best-of-three series with Twins returning home to Sonny Gray on the mound It’s a best-of-three now. Game 3 of the series will begin at 3:07 p.m. on Tuesday at Target Field with Gray squaring off against Astros starter Christian Javier.“We’ve got Sonny lined up, who arguably is top three (in the) Cy Young race this year. And then if we need a Game 5, we’ve got Pablo lined up on normal rest, so I think we like our chances,” Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers said. “We like our chances against anybody. It just so happens that we’re in a pretty good spot right now.”G...

Dane Mizutani: If Twins go on a deep playoff run, their fan base deserves a lot of credit The home crowd at Target Field literally changed the game last week when the Twins hosted the Toronto Blue Jays in the two-game American League Wild Card Series. With a couple of runners in scoring position midway through Game 2 last Wednesday, Twins pitching ace Sonny Gray got out of the jam thanks to a perfectly executed pickoff move that caught Blue Jays baserunner Vladimir Guerrero Jr. napping on second base.Asked about the sequence postgame, Gray gave a shoutout to the 38,518 fans in attendance, explaining that it was so loud in that moment that Guerrero couldn’t hear anything while he was taking his lead off the base. As a result, Gray turned and fired to Twins shortstop Carlos Correa, who promptly tagged Guerrero to end the scoring threat.“The crowd was incredible today from the moment I stepped on the mound,” Gray said. “They really, really helped us win that game.”As the Twins prepare to host the Houston Astros in Game 3 and Game 4 of the Americ...

Who is Nuggets’ backup 5 behind Nikola Jokic? With Zeke Nnaji and DeAndre Jordan, it might depend on the opponent In order for Zeke Nnaji to be the next big man up behind Nikola Jokic, his current checklist features only two boxes: crash the glass, and don’t break like glass. One requires increased physicality and aggression. The other is a matter of injury prevention. After appearing in a career-high 53 games and five more during the playoffs last season, Nnaji is positioned to become even more of an everyday player in 2023-24 as the defending champion Nuggets seek frontcourt depth to support their two-time MVP after a short offseason.Like last year, they don’t exactly have a surplus of it. Hence Nnaji’s continued inclusion in the effort to solidify a backup center, despite his 6-foot-9 height and skillset that makes him more natural at other positions.“If he’s our backup five, that means we’re playing pretty small,” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said. “So that gives us a chance to be pretty versatile. Switch a lot more with Zeke.”It’s he and vetera...
